My mother-in-law is a strong, complicated and smart woman who is good at pointing out people’s faults with snide remarks and snotty comebacks. She constantly insults and makes fun of my husband while she showers her other two children with compliments and expensive gifts that we find out about later when someone let’s the secret out of the bag. My husband just grins and bears it hoping that she will at least leave him something in the will. I think his mother insults him because he either resembles her first husband who abandoned her or because he is not as successful as his brother and sister. What should we do TT? (Griffiths, MN)
Griffiths, the problem lies with your husband for being cowardly and weak. There is nothing worse than some kid who sucks his parents waiting for them to kick the bucket for their money. It also sounds like your husband’s gutlessness has rubbed off on you for not telling your moth-in-law to eat %#@*! Don’t tolerate this nonsense anymore and either stop associating with her or tell her off to her face next time she says something mean. If she gets cute, scream at her at the top of your lungs. That will make an impression.
